Thu Parmar officially wins sipiwiyiniwak: plans ambitious council term

Edmonton, AB – October 24, 2025 — As the City of Edmonton rolled out its official election results on Friday, Thu Parmar has been confirmed as City Councillor-elect for Ward sipiwiyiniwak.

“I’m incredibly grateful to residents for putting their faith in me,” said Parmar. Thank you, Sipiwiyiniwak. Every vote mattered, every voice was heard, and together we’ll build a stronger, safer, and more connected Edmonton,” she said.

After an administrative error affected initial election results, Thu was declared winner after a clear 600-vote advantage.

Her five-month campaign—draped in bright blue, orange and white—included 100 volunteers, 37,000 door knocks, and 1200 sign deliveries. She is the first Vietnamese person elected to Edmonton City Council.

“From six to 600 and an overtime win, I’m ready to bring my community-centered experience to City Hall. I want to thank Darrell Friesen for his positive support and to all candidates who showed up for our ward. I look forward to working with Mayor-elect Knack and our new Council as we continue to build this vibrant city,” said Parmar.

Known for her hands-on leadership and community-first approach, Parmar built her campaign on fiscal responsibility, safe neighbourhoods, and stronger community connections.

A former president of the Cameron Heights Community League and vice-president with the Canadian Red Cross, Parmar brings proven experience in financial stewardship, public safety advocacy, and collaborative problem-solving.

Parmar will be officially sworn in as City Councillor on Wednesday, October 29,2025.
