Meet
Thu Parmar

I’m Thu Parmar, and I’m proud to be running as your candidate for City Council in Ward sipiwiyiniwak.

My story is one of community and service to others.

Born in a refugee camp in Thailand after my family left Vietnam in the 80s, we landed in Edmonton in December when I was one month old. In this city, my parents became entrepreneurs, built our family business, and quickly discovered a vibrant community and place to call home.

A proud Edmontonian, I’m ready to bring that community-centered approach to City Council. I’m a neighbour, parent, wife (and sports mom!), experienced leader, and someone who loves this city deeply.

As a pharmacist and healthcare advocate for over 20 years, I’ve served residents in community drug stores, worked to make new medicines accessible to Albertans, and pushed for better public policy. Leading teams as a vice president with the Canadian Red Cross, I led vital new community programs to help the vulnerable and created effective disaster response strategies.

I believe strong leadership starts with strong communities. And strong communities start with vibrant neighbourhoods.

I served as president of the Cameron Heights Community League, leading and fundraising over $2.5 million to build a local spray park, outdoor skating rink, and community hall. As the West Edmonton District Representative on the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues, I addressed issues like funding, social isolation and building community capacity.

This work keeps me focused on basics and foundations: keeping our neighbourhoods safe, using our tax dollars wisely, and restoring trust between residents and City Hall. I believe in balanced budgets, transparent leadership, and practical solutions that reflect the real needs of this ward.

My whole life, this city has shown me the power of local people coming together to build something better. I’m running for City Council because I believe our city needs leaders who listen, build strong relationships. and put community first. Someone who cares, will roll up their sleeves, and work for you and your family

I’m ready to listen, ready to lead, and ready to advocate for a stronger, safer, and more connected Ward sipiwiyiniwak — together with you.
