FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thu Parmar kicks off community-first campaign in Ward sipiwiyiniwak
Thu Parmar, municipal candidate kicks off community-first campaign in Ward sipiwiyiniwak at Hayloft Steak +Fish in Cameron Heights.
EDMONTON, AB, May 25, 2025 — Bringing decades of experience in community service and leadership in the public and private sectors, Thu Parmar launched her campaign today as an independent candidate running for Ward sipiwiyiniwak in the upcoming Edmonton municipal election.
A pharmacist, neighbour, parent, and passionate advocate for the community, Thu's vision for the ward focuses on basics and foundations: keeping neighbourhoods safe, using tax dollars wisely, and restoring trust between residents and City Hall.
Her campaign emphasizes balanced budgets, transparent leadership, and practical solutions tailored to the real needs of sipiwiyiniwak.
"Since my family came to this city as entrepreneurs from Vietnam when I was one month old, Edmonton has shown me the power of local people coming together to build something better. I’m running for City Council because I believe our city needs leaders who listen, build strong relationships, and put community first. Someone who cares. Someone who will work for you and your family," said Parmar.
Thu's extensive experience highlights community-first leadership. She served as President of the Cameron Heights Community League, where she led and fundraised over $2.5 million to build a local spray park, outdoor skating rink, and community hall.
Her role as the West Edmonton District Representative on the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues saw her address issues like funding, social isolation, and building community capacity.
She’s also served as Vice President with the Canadian Red Cross and Manager of the Provincial Drug Plan with the Government of Alberta. As a local healthcare and policy advocate, her lifelong commitment to volunteering and humanitarian causes– earning her the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal–underscores her deep-rooted passion for community service.
She’s ready to bring her dedication, experience, and vision to City Hall, working tirelessly for the betterment of the city and ward she loves.
